Kickstarter scammer business

It’s been a crazy couple days! I don’t know how many of you folks follow me elsewhere, but on Thursday, I went public with a problem I’ve been dealing with the last several weeks.

I was targeted by a scammer who pledged $1000 to my campaign, then filed a charge dispute with his credit card company soon after I’d started shipping rewards out. I submitted evidence to appeal the dispute, and I was waiting for the outcome of it when another project creator got in touch with me about this person; as it turns out, he has done this to hundreds of other projects, pledging hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars only to dispute the credit card charges later on, often after receiving his rewards.

There has been some press on this since I went public, so you can check those out if you want to get into the nitty gritty. Kickstarter has since issued an official statement, as well as a personal response to all the affected project creators, and they’re going to be assisting me with my appeal from here on out, as well as continuing the investigation with Amazon Payments. A lot of damage has been done by this scumbag, but I’m hopeful for a happy outcome.

I’m still waiting for the results of my appeal, but I have a feeling I probably wont be made to repay that money. Just a hunch.

As far as Chapter 3, that is still coming along, and no amount of credit card fraud will stop it from getting done! ETA on the eBook is November 22nd, perhaps a day or two earlier. I’ve only got 6 pages to go!

Over the Hill

We’re closing in on the end! I’m currently finished with 15 of 24 pages, and I’m working on 16-18 at the moment. Once the chapter is done, I’ll need to take some time to make any necessary revisions, but the eBook should be in your (digital?) hands around Mid-November. And I’m shooting for the site updates to begin on December 1st! I very much appreciate everyone’s patience with me while I work on this project. :D

Last weekend, I went to Cleveland Comic Con! It was a whole lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to my upcoming trip to Detroit for Youmacon. I’ll be in the Artist Alley all weekend, so come by and say hello if you’re in the area! I’ll have The Hues bumper stickers, posters, sketch cards, and my brand new Hexagram Necklaces!

Weekly Update: The Halfway Mark

Hi, everyone! This week’s update is going to be short and sweet. Next weekend I’m going to have a table at Cleveland Comic Con, in Independence, OH. Come out and see me if you can! It’s very likely that this will be my last convention until January.

I’ve now got 12 pages completed, which means I’m officially halfway done! They’re coming along quite nicely, and I’m really excited for the time when I finally get to start sharing the comic with everyone. Here’s ONE non-spoilery panel that I CAN share:

Backer rewards are out! It’s time for your weekly update.

If you saw the Kickstarter update I posted last Sunday, you know that backer rewards are out in the wild! I shipped the first slew of rewards over the weekend, and all the rest of the packages are now out, so keep an eye on your mailboxes for your stuff. :D Cameo and custom art people: I will be contacting you individually in the coming weeks to get your stuff started.

Digital Rewards

Backers can now get their digital rewards, as well! Emails were sent out on Wednesday with instructions on how to download the wallpapers and eBook rewards. If you didn’t get the email, check your spam folder! And if it’s not there, please comment or drop me a line at alexheberling@gmail.com.

The comic pages themselves are coming along. :) I’ve also been working on a little project on the side that I hope to unveil near the end of this month. Here’s a hint!
